A Cummins Case Study
Norfolk Tug, operating the Dutch-built tug KT Anoman V for port work in Indonesia, needed a repower to improve handling of larger container ships as traffic increased at the Port of Tanjung Perak in Surabaya. The vessel had already been modified for tougher harbor duties, but its aging engines were no longer sufficient for the job.
Cummins, through its Indonesia distributor PT Altrak 1978, supplied two KTA38M1 engines rated at 1000 hp each at 1800 RPM, paired with the tug’s existing Schottel SRP 550 EP Z-drives. The repower, completed at Semarang Shipyard, delivered measurable performance gains including 11.8 knots on sea trials and 20 tons of bollard pull, while a Cummins 6C-cp 135 kW generator set was installed to meet onboard electrical needs.
