Repower and More for the Cornelia Marie

Mike Fourtner and the owners of the Cornelia Marie faced a major challenge after purchasing the famous Bering Sea crabber: the vessel needed extensive life-extending repairs, including replacement of its tired main engines, two gensets, and badly deteriorated steel decking under the accommodation block. They turned to Cummins for marine propulsion support, with a pair of electronic-controlled 750-HP QSK19-M diesel engines among the key products involved.

Cummins helped complete a fast-turnaround repower and refit in just about 10 weeks, including installing the new mains, replacing two generators, re-pitching the propellers, machining the shafts, and supporting sea trials. The Cornelia Marie returned to service on schedule for a Bristol Bay tendering commitment, leaving Seattle with new engines, new accommodations and galley, and major structural repairs completed; the result was a more reliable vessel ready for heavy fishing seasons ahead.
