Reducing Emissions in Southern California

Long Beach Cruises, operating the whale watch catamaran *Christopher* in the Long Beach/Los Angeles port area, needed to repower its vessel to keep up with California’s emissions-reduction efforts. The customer was looking for a cleaner, modern marine propulsion solution to replace its aging Cummins KTA19-M engines.

Cummins supplied new EPA Tier 2 compliant QSK19 marine engines with electronically controlled fuel injection and a modular common rail system. The repower delivered 700 HP at 2100 RPM per engine, driving the catamaran to 22 knots while supporting the vessel’s 100-plus passenger capacity and helping reduce emissions in a sensitive Southern California operating environment.
