Rede Globo, the largest commercial television network in Latin America, needed highly reliable standby power for its broadcast and production operations in Rio de Janeiro. As the network expanded into high-definition digital production, its power demands grew and local utility supply could not always keep up, creating a risk of outages that could knock stations and programming off the air. Rede Globo turned to Cummins Power Generation and its distributor, CVSMG-RJ, for a dependable backup power solution.

Cummins Power Generation installed two 1250 kVA Model DFHD generator sets with PowerCommand PCC 3100 digital controls and a DMC1000 parallel panel to monitor and manage parallel operation, along with supporting features such as alternator pre-heating and a heat-exchanger cooling system. The solution was reported to be highly satisfactory, helping Globo secure its news center operations, and it led to additional business when Globosat requested three more Cummins 800 DQFAB generator sets.
