A Cummins Case Study
Poltramp Shipyard, Ltd. built a new 20.99-meter Norwegian longliner, M/V Grotle, for a Norwegian fishing customer and needed a reliable marine power package for propulsion and onboard operations. Cummins supplied the vessel’s main engine and generator sets, including a 1000 HP K38-M main engine and two QSM11/Stamford gensets, to support fishing, freezing, and processing systems.
Cummins delivered a propulsion and power solution that included an IMO Tier II and EPA Tier 2 compliant K38-M main engine, 250 kW gensets, and support through its marine service network. The vessel has performed successfully on fishing trips, and the owner reported being very happy with the engines and gensets. The system powers an automated gutting line plus freezing and storage in a 170-cubic-meter freezer hold, helping produce high-quality catch efficiently.
