A Cummins Case Study
PIRIOU, the French boat builder, needed a reliable propulsion solution for its eleventh 53-meter Fast Supply and Intervention Vessel (FSIV), the Karol W, built for Suisse Outremer AG and operated by ABC Maritime AG. The vessel required strong performance, maneuverability, and station-keeping capability for offshore operations, along with the power to carry substantial cargo and personnel.
Cummins supplied four V-16-cylinder KTA50-M2 main engines for the vessel, driving Hamilton water jets and supported by bow thrusters and dynamic positioning. The solution delivered 5,368 kW (7,200 HP) total power, enabling the Karol W to reach 20 knots loaded and 30 knots light ship while improving sea comfort and maneuvering performance.
