A Cummins Case Study
Phoenix NAP, a premier data center in Phoenix, Arizona, needed a dependable standby power solution for a new multi-tenant co-location and network access point facility. The company wanted “the next generation in data centers” and needed a system that could support critical customers, fit into a tight physical footprint, and meet demanding reliability and redundancy requirements. Cummins was chosen based on prior experience, the ability to meet specifications, and overall value.
Cummins provided a PowerCommand® digital paralleling solution with a DMC 200 digital master control, a ten-section switchgear lineup, and two 2 MW DQKAB generator sets in sound attenuated housings. The system was designed with multiple control locations, outdoor enclosures to save space, and the ability to start supplying power within 15 seconds of a utility outage. The result was a compact, robust power system that supported a 40 MW 2N facility, helped Phoenix NAP complete construction in about 12 months, and gave the customer confidence to plan additional generator additions as the site grows.
