Naviera Fluvial Colombiana - Customer Case Study

Naviera Fluvial Colombiana, a Colombian inland waterways transport company, needed to repower its towboat Sotara while maintaining a shallow draft and improving fuel and maintenance efficiency. After analyzing operating cycles, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs, the customer chose Cummins engines for the refit.

Cummins supplied four KTA19-M3 engines rated at 500 hp each at 1800 RPM, with support from Cummins de Los Andes and application engineer Alfredo Cardenas. The installation of the heat exchanger-equipped, turbocharged, and after-cooled engines enabled Sotara to keep a two-meter draft while delivering the horsepower needed for river operations, strengthening Naviera Fluvial Colombiana’s fleet performance.
