A Cummins Case Study
Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, the largest private medical center in Louisiana, needed highly reliable emergency standby and supplemental power for its Baton Rouge facility, especially given its critical healthcare role and hurricane-zone location. It turned to Cummins for a complete power solution, including a 1750 kW diesel generator, five 1750 kW lean-burn gas generators, digital controls, paralleling switchgear, and transfer switches.
Cummins implemented a distributed-control power system that allows generators to start and operate autonomously, synchronize reliably, and share loads even if part of the system fails. The combined diesel-and-gas approach provided immediate lifesafety backup plus supplemental power with greater fuel resilience, lower operating costs, and future flexibility for peak shaving or cogeneration. As a result, Our Lady of the Lake gained a more reliable, simpler, and more scalable emergency power system from Cummins.
