A Cummins Case Study
Maxum Petroleum needed a more efficient way to serve its diesel and lube oil customers in Puget Sound, especially smaller delivery accounts and ATB customers. To meet that challenge, Maxum turned to Cummins for propulsion engines as part of a new product tanker, the 126-foot Global Provider, which was being built to fill this niche.
Cummins supplied a pair of QSK19M Tier 3 diesel engines, each rated at 660 HP, to power the new vessel along with Twin Disc gears and supporting onboard systems. The fully double-hulled tanker, with six cargo holds, was designed to carry 3,700 barrels of fuel and 24,000 gallons of lube oil, giving Maxum a more flexible two-man day-boat option with added capacity for longer runs and relief service when other barges are in dry dock.
