A Cummins Case Study
Marsun Co. Ltd., a Thailand-based builder of high-speed patrol craft and crewboats, wanted to expand its crewboat line with a larger 40-meter vessel while maintaining the performance and reliability of its existing 36-meter design. For this project, Marsun used Cummins propulsion equipment as part of the new Uniexpress 18 crewboat.
Cummins supplied three KTA38-M2 diesel engines, each rated at 1350 BHP at 1950 RPM, paired with Twin Disc MGX-6690SC gears and 1050-mm propellers. The resulting vessel entered service in the Gulf of Thailand carrying up to 70 workers and 50 tons of cargo, achieving 23 knots loaded and 18 knots cruising speed, with sea-trial performance more than a knot faster than Marsun’s 36-meter model.
