A Cummins Case Study
Marine Engineering Bureau, a non-government design bureau in Odessa, Ukraine, needed a highly versatile emergency response tug that could handle many different mission profiles, from towing and harbour assistance to oil spill response and firefighting. To support this challenge, the customer selected Cummins power equipment for the vessel, including main engines and generator sets.
Cummins supplied a pair of K38-M main engines, each rated at 634 kW, plus two NTA855-CP200DM5 generator sets delivering 200 kW each, giving the tug the power needed for its wide range of duties. The vessel also features Z-drives, forward fire monitors, a towing winch, and a cargo crane, and is designed to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping class KM Arc 4 R1 AUT3-C FF3WS Tug. The case study does not cite a quantified performance result, but the Cummins-powered tug was scheduled for delivery in 2016.
