Preview of the Saigon Shipmarin Case Study

LPG Tanker for the Mekong River

Saigon Shipmarin, a Vietnamese shipbuilding and repair yard under SBIC, needed reliable propulsion and auxiliary power for a new 60-by-11-meter LPG carrier designed for inland and near-shore service on the Mekong River. The vessel, owned by F.A. Joint Stock Company, was being built to Vietnam Register Rules and National Inland Regulations and required efficient engines for a 1,400-cubic-meter, two-tank LPG tanker.

Cummins supplied the power package for the vessel, including a pair of Cummins 855 diesel engines rated at 490 HP each for propulsion and two Cummins 6C engines for 120 kW generator sets. The result was a completed LPG tanker ready for delivery, marking the first vessel of this design built by Saigon Shipmarin and potentially the start of a new class of similar vessels.
