lower emissions, exceptional dependability, and more tractive effort

R.J. Corman Railpower Locomotives needed an eco-friendly freight locomotive that could deliver dependable performance while meeting stringent North American Tier 4 emissions standards. To achieve this, they partnered with Cummins and selected the Cummins QSK60 EPA Certified Tier 4 engine for their new single-engine locomotive project, Road Number 2017.

Cummins worked with Railpower’s engineering team to develop the 2,310-horsepower Tier 4 locomotive engine system, combining lower fuel consumption, increased reliability, and reduced harmful emissions. The locomotive began generating revenue in February 2019 and has exceeded expectations, with Railpower reporting strong engine performance and no warranty issues.
