A Cummins Case Study
Komo Airport in Papua New Guinea needed a dependable prime power solution for a new airfield built in one of the harshest environments in the world. Facing remote access, extreme weather, high altitude, and demanding logistics, the airport required stable electricity for critical operations such as terminal facilities, runway lighting, communications, navigational aids, fire services, and fuel distribution. Cummins supplied the power infrastructure for the site, including generator sets and control equipment.
Cummins implemented three C400D5e generator sets with a DMC 200 digital master controller, main switchboard, fuel system, exhaust system, and acoustic attenuation. The system was engineered to handle 24/7 operation, with two units in prime power and one standby, and was successfully commissioned after a 40-day testing process. The result was a reliable power platform that supported the airport’s full operations and met the project’s stringent requirements despite the challenging location.
