Case Study: Hansen Boat Company keeps the Sea Mac repower on schedule with Cummins support

A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the Hansen Boat Company Case Study

Keeping to the Schedule in the Pacific Northwest

Hansen Boat Company needed to keep a tightly scheduled repower on the Kodiak-based trawler Sea Mac on track after a brand-new Cummins KTA38-M engine was damaged when its truck trailer overturned near Everett, Washington. With the vessel under pressure to return to Kodiak for a mid-January season opening, the customer faced a serious delay and the risk of missing its launch window.

Cummins responded by coordinating with the insurance company, moving the engine to its Renton up-fit center, sourcing replacement parts through its global network, and testing the rebuilt engine on a dyno cell. After the engine passed a full test at 1,800 RPM and 1,000 HP, Cummins personally delivered it back to the shipyard, getting the Sea Mac back on schedule in just five days and avoiding a major setback for Hansen Boat Company.
