Jones Marine Group - Customer Case Study

Jones Marine Group, a Vancouver Island ship-docking and towing operator, needed a new vessel to keep pace with larger ships and the increasing use of Z-drive tugs in the port. To meet that challenge, they turned to Cummins for propulsion power in a new A.G. McIlwain-designed tractor tug, the David J.

Cummins supplied a pair of IMO II compliant KTA38-M2 main engines, each rated at 1200 HP at 1800 RPM, paired with Rolls-Royce Marine Z-drives and vibration-isolating soft mounts. The result was a compact, highly maneuverable ship handler with 2400 horsepower, improved crew comfort, and the ability for Jones Marine Group to handle most ships independently in tighter harbor spaces.
