Jeep Wrangler Repowered with Cummins R2.8

Jeep needed to repower a Wrangler used as Cummins’ first test vehicle for the Cummins Repower program, with the added challenge of repairing major frame rust and damage before the vehicle could be put into service. Cummins provided the R2.8L Turbo Diesel repower solution, paired with the original NV3550 transmission and 3.73 axle gearing.

Cummins and Axis Industries USA installed the engine and adapters, first using an alpha test engine and handmade wiring harness to refine calibration for emissions testing and real-world driving, then upgrading to a BETA production crate engine and harness. The result was a reliable Wrangler that has covered about 20,000 miles without leaving the team stranded and successfully completed a 6-hour maiden voyage to Toledo for the first Jeep Fest.
