iXAfrica deploys 8.4 MW standby power with Cummins

The customer, iXAfrica, faced the challenge of ensuring failsafe backup power for East Africa's first hyperscale data center in Nairobi, where grid outages are common. The company required a highly reliable standby power system and chose vendor Cummins, working through its distributor Car & General, to implement the first phase of this critical project using diesel generator sets.

Cummins implemented a customized 8.4 MW solution featuring four C3000D5 generator sets housed in sound-attenuated containers, a 52,000-liter bulk fuel tank, and innovative space-saving designs like a three-level steel stacking structure. The vendor also adapted the equipment for the site's high altitude to ensure full performance. This turnkey solution, controlled by DMC8000 systems, was successfully commissioned and provides iXAfrica with a reliable source of standby power, safeguarding data for its expanding client base across the region.
