Institution of Civil Engineers - Customer Case Study

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in London needed reliable standby power for its high-profile headquarters at One Great George Street, but its central Westminster location sat within a protected low-emissions zone where diesel generators were not allowed. ICE also needed a solution that would operate quietly enough for a building used for conferences, events, and dining. Cummins supplied a natural gas generator set to meet these requirements.

Cummins installed a containerised 315 kWe generator set with a QSK19G natural gas engine, along with remote monitoring and remote start/stop capability. The system was hoisted onto the roof and connected quickly to the building management system and gas booster, then proved its value during a subsequent Westminster grid outage by starting up successfully and delivering low-noise, non-diesel standby power without breaching local emissions restrictions.
