A Cummins Case Study
IHC Beaver, working in dredging operations for ports and river estuaries, needed a way to move dredged material much farther than a standard suction dredge could handle. The challenge was extending the reach of its pipeline-based dredging system efficiently and reliably, while reducing the time and cost of transporting material. Cummins supplied the marine power solution used in the booster station, centered on a QSK60-M diesel.
Cummins provided a QSK60-M-powered booster pump generating 1,641 kW (2,200 HP), giving IHC Beaver the extra pumping power needed to push dredged material over much longer distances. The result was a major increase in pipeline range and operational flexibility; in one example, the allowable discharge pipe length for a Chinese dredger increased from 7,000 meters to 11,500 meters. Cummins’ solution also helped deliver significant savings in time and cost compared with conventional dredge-and-barge methods.
