Grupo Laeisz San Josè Costa Rica - Customer Case Study

Grupo Laeisz San José Costa Rica, working with Cummins, needed to repower the Costa Rican Coast Guard patrol boat Punta Burica after decades of service. The vessel required a modern marine engine solution to replace its aging MTU units and continue serving as a valuable patrol asset.

Cummins supplied a pair of QSK19-M marine engines for the repower, each rated at 800 HP at 2100 RPM with Medium Continuous Duty and equipped with modular common rail fuel systems. The upgrade improved the patrol boat’s capability, giving Punta Burica a patrol speed of 20 knots while meeting IMO and EPA Tier 2 compliance requirements.
