A Cummins Case Study
Fingrid, Finland’s transmission grid operator, needed a highly reliable black start solution for its reserve power plant that could also export to the grid. Cummins, working with kW-set Oy, was selected to meet complex operating scenarios, tight response times, and space-efficiency requirements, using C3750D5 generator sets, DMC8000 controllers, and a neutral earth resistor.
Cummins designed and installed a bespoke standby and continuous power system tailored to Fingrid’s needs, including a last-minute customized alternator option and software changes completed within an 18-hour window during factory acceptance testing. The solution was delivered on time, met commissioning requirements, and won the project with the strongest commercial offer and competitive total cost of ownership for both standby and continuous use.
