Filter Technology Delivers Savings

Anglo American Coal Australia Asset Management, operating at the Dawson coal mine in Queensland, needed to cut heavy maintenance costs and downtime on its Komatsu 830E haul truck fleet while maintaining engine protection. Working with Cummins Filtration, the site tested new Fleetguard filter technology and related monitoring tools to see whether service intervals could be safely extended and total cost of ownership reduced.

Cummins Filtration implemented new Fleetguard fuel/water separators with NanoNet media, NanoForce air filters, ES water filters, and a SpiraTec rotor for the Cummins Eliminator oil filtration system, supported by telematics and live data monitoring. The trial extended intervals well beyond historical norms, including fuel filters to 2,000 hours and water filters to 4,000 hours, and delivered about 60% savings on filter and oil consumption, 74% less servicing downtime, and more than $250,000 in annual fleet savings across 14 trucks.
