Dongguan Nanxiang Shipbuilding - Customer Case Study

Dongguan Nanxiang Shipbuilding, a Guangdong Province shipyard, needed dependable power and propulsion for a 400-ton crane barge under construction for a domestic Chinese customer. The vessel required high electrical output to support heavy lifting equipment, winches, and onboard systems, along with reliable main propulsion for the 62.2 by 26.2-meter barge. Cummins supplied the engine package, including KT38 main propulsion engines and KTA19 generator sets.

Cummins solved the challenge by equipping the crane barge with two KT38 main engines producing 780 kW each, plus a KTA19-powered 350 kW generator in each engine room, with an additional hotel generator for accommodation and lighting. This configuration provided the electrical and mechanical power needed to operate the three-drum winch and pedestal-mounted crane, while supporting a crew of up to 20. The result was a capable heavy-lift vessel designed and built for the domestic market, with delivery anticipated later that year.
