Digital Realty Datacampus - Customer Case Study

Digital Realty Datacampus needed highly reliable standby power for its new Digital Chicago campus in Franklin Park, Illinois, to support Tier III data center operations, multiple buildings, and growing customer demand. The challenge was to deliver redundant backup power quickly while meeting strict uptime, latency, and scalability requirements. Cummins provided the generator infrastructure, including 2 MW generator sets for the data suites and smaller units for building power.

Cummins supplied and commissioned multiple standby generators across Phase I and Phase II of the campus, including seven 2 MW sets plus a 500 kW unit for building infrastructure in Phase I, and additional 2 MW and 1,250 kW generators in Phase II. The solution enabled N+1 redundant emergency power and supported 99.999% uptime reliability, with the systems performing as expected during commissioning and brief service events. Cummins’ speed of delivery and reliability helped Digital Realty Datacampus keep the campus on schedule and positioned for ongoing expansion.
