A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the Desmet Case Study

Desmet - Customer Case Study

Desmet, a tomato grower in Aardooie, Belgium, wanted to reduce heating costs and CO2 emissions across its 43,000 m2 of greenhouses without tying up capital in new power-generation equipment. Cummins provided an Energy Service Contract solution using a Combined Heat and Power system to supply electricity and heat at a contractual price.

Cummins designed, built, installed, and operates a 2 MWe / 2.7 MW thermal CHP plant with lean-burn gas generator sets and exhaust gas cleaning, allowing CO2 to be reused in the greenhouses. The system runs about 6,200 hours per year and operates at over 90% overall energy efficiency, delivering lower energy costs, reduced emissions, and no upfront ownership burden for Desmet.
