A Cummins Case Study
Dann Marine Towing, a fifth-generation family-owned tugboat operator based in Chesapeake City, MD, needed to repower its model-bow twin-screw tug Sea Coast. The vessel had been operating with older 700-HP Cat engines and was due for a more modern, Tier 3-compliant propulsion solution.
Cummins supplied a repower with a pair of Tier 3 Cummins QSK19-M engines, each rated at 750 HP at 1800 RPM continuous duty, along with new Reintjes WAF374 gears. The upgrade replaced the existing engines and gears while retaining the same Rice propellers, giving Dann Marine Towing cleaner, more powerful propulsion and slightly increased horsepower per engine from 700 to 750 HP.
