Cummins & R.J. Corman Railpower Partner to Create Eco-Friendly Locomotive

Leading Eco-Friendly Locomotive Service Provider partnered with Cummins to develop a cleaner, more efficient freight locomotive that could meet stringent Tier 4 Final emissions standards while still delivering dependable performance and revenue generation. Their challenge was to create an eco-friendly locomotive with lower fuel use and reduced harmful emissions without sacrificing reliability or tractive effort.

Cummins supplied the QSK60 EPA Certified Tier 4 engine and worked with the customer’s engineering team to build Road Number 2017, a single-engine 2,310 horsepower locomotive system. The result was a locomotive that exceeded expectations, has generated revenue since February 2019, achieved lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, and has had no reported warranty issues.
