A Cummins Case Study
Ocean Choice International, a Newfoundland, Canada-based fishing company, needed reliable electric power for a new 74-meter factory freezer trawler operating in cold, stormy Arctic waters. The vessel required substantial onboard electricity for crew accommodations, electric trawl winches, processing systems, and a large freezer, making dependable generation critical to avoid downtime and protect the catch.
Cummins supplied a QSK60 generator and a QSK19 generator for the trawler, as specified by ship designer Skipsteknisk. The Cummins-powered generator stations delivered 2155 kVA/1724 kWe and 700 kVA/560 kWe, supporting efficient, Tier III-compliant marine operations with strong reliability, diagnostics, and engine protection. The result was a modern, highly efficient fishing vessel with the electrical capacity needed to operate safely and productively offshore.
