Case Study: Prime Power restores Monrovia’s electricity with Cummins Power Generation

A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the Prime Power Case Study

Cummins Power Generation teams with The Louis Berger Group to re-electrify the capital of Liberia

Prime Power, working in partnership with The Louis Berger Group, faced the challenge of helping restore reliable electricity to Monrovia, Liberia after years of civil war had severely damaged the city’s power grid. With more than 90% of Monrovia lacking commercial power, the project required a fast, scalable prime power solution for municipal lighting and broader grid recovery.

Cummins Power Generation supplied and supported a 10 MW plant built around 10 containerized 1000 kW generator sets, transformers, paralleling switchgear, and PowerCommand® Pulse monitoring and control. Cummins and Berger/Cummins also handled system synchronization, fuel storage, structural design, and staff training, delivering the project on time and on budget. The new plant more than doubled Monrovia’s previous installed capacity and now provides electricity for several areas of the city.
