Cummins Power Generation standby solution for Lake Michigan plant

Waukegan Water Treatment Plant in Waukegan, Illinois needed a reliable emergency standby power solution to keep its water treatment operations running during outages. The facility also faced site constraints from an aging building and sandy ground near Lake Michigan, so it needed a system that could be installed safely and operate automatically.

Cummins supplied a fully integrated standby power system, including a 1750 kW DQKAA 4160 V generator set with sound-attenuated outdoor housing, DMC300 digital master controller, medium-voltage switchgear, and a 5 kV onsite load bank. The solution enabled seamless closed-transition transfers back to utility power, reduced labor and restart headaches for plant staff, and gave Waukegan Public Works a compact, easy-to-manage system from a single location.
