Cummins Power for Washington State Ferry

All American Marine built the MV Sally Fox for King County’s Vashon Island–Seattle ferry route, where the customer needed a modern replacement for two aging 27-year-old boats. The new ferry had to carry 250 passengers and bicycles while meeting USCG Subchapter K requirements and supporting frequent commuter service.

Cummins supplied a pair of QSK50-M Tier 3 main engines for the aluminum catamaran, each rated at 1,800 HP at 1,900 RPM and driving fixed-pitch propellers. The Cummins-powered vessel reaches a 28-knot service speed, and a second boat built to the same design was planned for delivery later in 2015, helping modernize and expand reliable ferry service on the route.
