Cummins New Digital Hardware System Increases Productivity for Colombian Mine Site

Cerrejon Coal, Colombia’s largest open-pit mine, needed better visibility into engine performance and on-equipment filtration to improve uptime and control maintenance costs. Cummins used its Data Enabled Mining Solution (DEMS) remote engine monitoring system, along with support for assessing filtration performance, to identify issues with low oil quality, high air restriction, and frequent fuel filter changes caused by variable fuel quality.

Cummins responded by installing a remote oil centrifuge system, converting equipment to NanoForce® Air Filters, and adding NanoNet™ Fuel Filters. As a result, Cerrejon extended fuel filter change intervals to 1,000 hours and air filter intervals to 2,000 hours, improving equipment availability and reducing maintenance needs.
