Cummins Goes to Great Heights to Power Julong Copper Mine

Julong Copper Mine, China’s largest copper mine site, needed reliable power for heavy equipment operating at an extreme altitude of 4,400 meters, where thin air and severe weather can reduce engine performance and efficiency. Cummins supplied more than 65 engines ranging from 19L to 60L, including QSK60 engines, to power excavators, dump trucks, generators, drill rigs, and bulldozers.

Cummins addressed the challenge with high-reliability, high-durability engines designed to maintain power and torque in harsh conditions, while also providing 12 onsite aftermarket support team members to keep the fleet running. The result was continuous uptime for 240T ultra-class haul trucks and improved fuel economy and operating costs through robust engine design, advanced controls, and extended maintenance intervals, with 78L engines coming soon to meet even higher power needs.
