A Cummins Case Study
CoreSite, LLC, a network-dense colocation provider in downtown Chicago, needed a dependable backup power solution for its data center clients during utility outages. The challenge was replacing an aging rooftop standby system on a seven-story building while maintaining reliability, minimizing footprint, and preparing for future expansion. Cummins provided the power generation and paralleling equipment needed for the project.
Cummins implemented an 8 MW pre-integrated standby power system consisting of four DQKAB 2 MW generator sets, a DMC 200 Digital Master Control, and UL891 paralleling switchgear with downstream transfer pairs, plus temporary rental power during changeover. The new rooftop system was installed with a compact double-stacked layout, completed ahead of schedule, and transitioned with no impact to CoreSite’s customers. CoreSite reported a seamless installation and strong satisfaction with Cummins’ deadlines, support, and product quality.
