Co-operative Ownership for Alaska Limit Seiner

Fred Wahl Marine Construction partnered with Cummins to build a new Alaska limit seiner, the Magnus Martens, for customer Robert Thorstenson Jr. and his co-owner crew group. The challenge was to create a versatile fishing vessel that could support both Pacific cod pot/trap fishing and later salmon seining, while also fitting the ownership model and operational needs of an experienced Alaska fishing team.

Cummins supplied the marine propulsion package, centered on a QSK19-M main engine rated at 600 hp, paired with a Twin Disc MGX5222 gear and a four-blade bronze propeller. The vessel was designed to make about 10 knots and included substantial fuel, water, lube oil, fish-hold, and genset capacity. The result was a comfortable, efficient, multi-role fishing boat built for long-term durability and owner pride, with the customer noting the earlier Cummins-powered Pamela Rae was still running after 27,000 hours.
