Cloudbreak Mine - Customer Case Study

Cloudbreak Mine, owned by Fortescue Metals Group and operated by Contract Power Management, needed dependable prime power for round-the-clock mining in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia. With no grid access about 1,500km away and extreme heat, dust, and harsh operating conditions, the site required a rugged and reliable power solution. Cummins provided a QSK95 Series generator set, model C3500 D5, for the application.

Cummins supplied one QSK95 Series generator set delivering 3,125kVA of prime power, along with design features aimed at serviceability and durability in remote conditions. The unit has completed more than 4,000 run hours in continuous operation, with strong load acceptance, load rejection, and stability, while helping reduce fuel use and construction footprint. Cummins also supported commissioning and training, contributing to fast installation in just 2.5 weeks and reliable ongoing performance.
