City Saves Money With A Doubleduty Standby Generator Set From Cummins

Wayzata Bar & Grill in Wayzata, Minnesota, faced a critical standby power challenge as the city expanded its wastewater system. The new lift station needed reliable emergency power to prevent sewage backups, and the nearby municipally owned restaurant and wine shop also needed backup power during outages. Cummins supplied a GGLB 150 kW natural gas generator set, along with transfer switches and PowerCommand 2100 controls, to meet the site’s dual power needs.

Cummins and city staff designed an innovative double-duty system that used one generator to support both the lift station and Wayzata Bar & Grill, reducing equipment and installation costs while simplifying maintenance. The system was installed smoothly and later proved effective during a four-hour utility outage, keeping the lift station running and allowing the restaurant to serve customers. The project delivered lower upfront and ongoing costs, while providing dependable emergency protection.
