A Cummins Case Study

Preview of the Krankenhaus Bozen Case Study

Building a Brand-New Hospital Power System

Krankenhaus Bozen (KH BZ) needed to build a new hospital facility in Bolzano, Italy and required a new emergency power generation system that met hospital regulations and ISO 8528-5 standards. Cummins was selected to help deliver a standby power solution tailored to the critical safety and reliability needs of the hospital, using high-capacity generators and paralleling controls.

Cummins implemented five C2250 generators with paralleling controls for synchronized operation, enabling full-load acceptance within 10 seconds in a single-step procedure. The system also included redundant starting systems, fire and gas protection, and soundproof holding units that reduced operating noise to as low as 65 dB; as a result, Cummins delivered a complete turnkey, compliant, and reliable standby power system for the new hospital.
