Bristol Bay Borough Alaska - Customer Case Study

Bristol Bay Borough Alaska faced the challenge of preparing for the 2020 sockeye gillnet season amid Covid-19 uncertainty, while fishermen needed boats that could perform in the ultra-shallow, highly competitive Bristol Bay fishery. Cummins supplied marine power for the new F/V Not Guilty, built for owner Olin Green and designed to move large salmon loads quickly in very shallow water.

Cummins helped power the boat with twin QSC8.3 engines, each rated at 600 hp, driving 340HT UltraJet water jets through ZF gears to deliver both speed and shallow-water capability. The result was a purpose-built vessel with a 24-inch draft, a design speed of 40 knots, and a recorded top speed of 45.6 mph on sea trial, enabling it to get 15,000 pounds of salmon on step in 12 inches of water or less and return to the fishing grounds quickly.
