A Cummins Case Study
Inace Shipyard, Brazil-based shipbuilder, needed reliable marine propulsion and onboard power for its second Guido Perla & Associates-designed fast supply vessel, the Siem Carajas. To meet the vessel’s demanding performance and cargo requirements, the shipyard selected Cummins marine equipment for propulsion and electrical generation.
Cummins supplied four KTA50-M2 engines, each rated at 1,800 HP at 1,900 RPM, driving 1.2-meter propellers through Twin Disc gears, plus a pair of 99 kW Cummins-powered generators. The result was a 50-meter aluminum fast supply vessel capable of a 25-knot maximum design speed, 21-knot service speed at 175 metric tons deadweight, and up to 350 metric tons of deadweight capacity.
