A Cummins Case Study
Robert Allan Ltd. needed a purpose-built training tug that would let operator instructors teach escort and docking tug handling without tying up a full-size ASD tug. Working with Cummins, the company developed the BRAtt, a compact aluminum training vessel based on Robert Allan’s escort tug design and powered by Cummins QSB5.9-230 HD engines.
Cummins supplied the twin-engine propulsion package for the BRAtt, including ZF gears and Olympic HD3 Z-drives, helping create a fully functional 7.8-metre training tug with realistic handling characteristics. The result is a versatile 450 HP vessel expected to produce about 8,000 pounds of bollard pull, while also serving as a small working tug for towing, docking, line handling, and boom deployment.
