A Cummins Case Study
BIWTA, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, needed a powerful new tug to support its responsibilities managing Bangladesh’s inland rivers, canals, ports, and pilotage operations. To meet this need, it worked with Cummins and specified Cummins KTA50-M2 marine engines for the vessel.
Cummins supplied a pair of 16-cylinder KTA50-M2 engines, each rated at 1600 HP continuous at 1800 RPM, driving Schottel azimuthing units on the tug built by Dong Hae Shipbuilding. The result was a highly maneuverable vessel with about 40 tons of bollard pull, giving BIWTA the power and flexibility needed for ship assist and a wide range of marine duties.
