A Cummins Case Study
Varegro, a horticultural company in Oostrozebeke, Belgium, needed a more efficient way to provide heat, electricity, and CO2 for its greenhouse operations after rising fuel costs made its old oil-based heating system unprofitable in winter. Cummins supplied a C2000N5CD 2MW HSK78G gas generator set to support the site’s growing power requirements.
Cummins implemented a cogeneration solution that recovers waste heat to produce both thermal and electrical energy, helping Varegro meet lighting, hot water, and CO2 needs while also exporting surplus electricity to the grid. The system achieved 44.2% electrical efficiency and 103% total efficiency, delivering over 100% return, significant fuel savings, and continuous operation with full maintenance support from Cummins.
