Bayou LaBatre - Customer Case Study

Bayou LaBatre’s Rodriguez Shipyard needed a powerful tugboat designed to operate in the shallow waters of the Mississippi deltas and bayous while still handling open-water work. To meet that challenge, the shipyard partnered with Cummins and selected marine propulsion equipment for its latest triple-screw tug.

Cummins provided three QSK19-M diesel engines, each rated at 660 HP, driving Twin Disc gears and propellers for nearly 2,000 total horsepower. The result was a shallow-draft tug with enough power for pushing and towing barges, plus onboard electrical support from two 40 kW gensets, reinforcing Rodriguez Shipyard’s reputation for building strong shallow-draft workboats.
