Bahtera Bahari Shipyard - Customer Case Study

Bahtera Bahari Shipyard, a family-run shipyard and marine company based on Batam Island, Indonesia, needed reliable propulsion and onboard power for a new-generation tug serving both charter work and cargo transport. As the business expanded from ferry operations into tugs, barges, and shipbuilding, the company required a robust marine power package for its 29-by-8-meter Marina 30 tug. Cummins supplied the marine engines and generator solution used on the vessel.

Cummins equipped the Marina 30 with two KTA38-M2 diesel engines, each rated at 1200 HP at 1800 RPM, paired with Masson Marine W5200 gears, plus a Cummins 4BT3.9-GI-powered 50 kW generator for electrical services. The result was a capable tug that joined Bahtera Bahari Shipyard’s fleet for charter service and for moving coal, iron ore, and aggregate from the family’s operations. The article does not provide broader financial metrics, but it highlights the vessel’s strong operational performance and multi-role usefulness.
