A Cummins Case Study
Angaston Power Station in the Barossa Valley wine region of South Australia needed a low-emission diesel peaking plant that could support the grid during peak demand and outages without creating excessive noise or environmental impact in a sensitive location. Cummins was selected to design and build the facility, using 30 QSK60 generator sets with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) after-treatment.
Cummins delivered South Australia’s largest and cleanest diesel power station, a 50 MW plant that can start, synchronize, and reach full output in less than two minutes. The SCR system reduces NOx emissions by up to 98%, and sound-attenuated buildings keep noise to just 45 dB(A) at the nearest residential property line, while the plant also proved capable of operating at full capacity in 50°C temperatures during a major grid disruption.
