A Cummins Case Study
Toyota repowered a 1990 Land Cruiser to modernize its drivetrain and improve reliability while keeping the vehicle’s classic off-road character. Cummins provided the R2.8L Turbo Diesel repower solution, paired with Toyota’s H55F 5-speed manual transmission and supporting adapter/bellhousing components.
Cummins’ R2.8 diesel was installed with factory-style engine mounts, upgraded fuel and air systems, a custom exhaust, and improved cooling with dual electric fans and an intercooler. The result was a cleaner, more capable Land Cruiser setup with a stronger diesel powertrain suited for daily use and off-road driving, though the case study does not list specific performance metrics.
