1971 Jeep UACJ-6D Repowered with Cummins R2.8

Jeep, the owner of a 1971 UACJ-6D, needed a modern repower solution to update the vehicle’s drivetrain while preserving its off-road character. Cummins provided the Cummins Repower R2.8L Turbo Diesel as the core engine upgrade, giving the classic Jeep a compact diesel powertrain suited for serious trail use.

Cummins’ R2.8L Turbo Diesel was installed with an SM420 transmission, Ranger Overdrive, NP205 transfer case, Dana 60 axles, and supporting cooling components to complete the build. The result is a heavily upgraded Jeep with stronger performance, improved reliability, and off-road capability tailored for larger 38-inch tires and demanding terrain, though no specific performance metrics were listed in the case study.
